What is a Quality Cabinet?

How can you tell whether a cabinet is quality-built?
Look for features such as mortise and tenon joints, dovetailed drawers, with heavy gauge steel hardware and a 5-year manufacturer's warranty. Most quality cabinets also feature a lifetime warranty on drawer glides and hinges.

Another gauge is the thickness of the plywood used in the construction of the cabinets--the thicker, the stronger. Are the shelves adjustable? They should be.

Finishes come in a very wide variety of choices. Beyond choosing the color finish and wood type, it's good to know that all Builders Kitchen and Supply cabinets are factory finished and this special quality makes them impervious to all stains and protects them from most types of surface damage.

Quality Cabinet Features

1. Front Frames: Select solid hardwood 3/4" thick. Standard stiles are 1 1/4" wide and rails are 1 5/8" wide. Assembled with furniture-quality mortise and tenon joints.

2. Backrails: 1 1/16" x 1 1/4" solid hardwood.

3. Corner Blocks: 3/4" thick solid wood corner blocks are used in each corner of base cabinets to square and strengthen the unit. Blocks are glued and screwed.

4. Tops, Bottoms and Backs: UV-cured top coat, grain printed 1/4" plywood.

5. End Panels: 1/2" thick solid plywood veneer end panels with a UV-cured top coat, grain printed interior.

Called-Out Ends are stained and top coated with our superior finishing process.

6. Inset Toeboards: Allow application of a rubber base toeboard, or decorative finished toeboard to eliminate seams between cabinets for a cleaner, custom look.

7. Shelves: All shelves are 5/8" thick particle board with UV-cured top coat, grain printed pattern. All finished interior cabinets have 3/4" thick 3-ply particle board fully-adjustable veneer shelves. The veneer is stained, sealed and topcoated.

8. Drawers and Drawer Glides: 5/8" thick dovetailed Aspen drawer shell. Quiet, self-adjusting, self-closing, fully-captured, side-mounted drawer guides.

9. Attractive, Furniture-Quality Finish: Hand-sanded and hand-wiped stains. A durable top coat of catalyzed conversion varnish resists scratching and is impervious to most household chemicals.

10. Doors: Doors are solid 3/4" wood with solid wood raised panel construction. Our white styles are a rigid Thermal Foil for a smooth, durable finish.
